Practical issues
There are four basic types of pool construction:
- A reinforced concrete shell, finished with tiles, marblite or special paint.
- A blockwork or prefabricated panel shell supporting a tailormade PVC liner.
- A glassfibre or ceramic one-piece shell.
- An above-ground pool
Your budget
Prices can range from as little as £1400 (excluding heating) for a 15’ diameter, circular above-ground pool, to £40,000 or more for a heated, fully-tiled 40’x20’ sunken pool. These approximate prices depend upon a site with easy access. A larger pool, especially if it’s covered or indoors, may cost considerably more. Since many contractors charge extra for removing the excavated soil, you may decide to use it for a rockery, or other landscape feature. Optional extras include diving boards, slides, paved surrounds, landscaping, pool covers and pool enclosures.
Your contractor
Whatever your idea of a perfect pool, discuss it with a SPATA contractor. You will be sure of the company’s skill, experience, financial stability and integrity.
